Now can we ask about Mitt's magic underwear?

Some of the comments on Wonkette are pretty disgusting. Some people want ALL candidates for president to display their underwear, especially those who wear Victoria Secrets'.  There may be  a few but I'm  betting  that it's not Hillary.  But if it is I really really don't want to see that either. Yuck!

TPM Election Central reports that this week wasn't the first time GOP presidential candidate, and serial flip-flopper, Mitt Romney said that he wouldn't permit Muslims to be appointed to the presidential cabinet because of their religion. I'll be writing more on this later, but suffice it to say that Mr. Romney has now made his own belief in Mormonism fair game. If we are to look at Muslims' religious beliefs before placing them in the presidential cabinet, then why not look at a Mormon's beliefs before placing him in the Oval Office? Especially when that Mormon is running as a religious (right) candidate, someone who is promising to inject his religion into our politics. And he calls Muslim's radical. To paraphrase an argument so popular on the original-intent right, "Did the Founding Fathers really intend to hand the scepter of power to a Mormon?" Romney can't have it both ways. Either religion in politics matters or it doesn't. Romney says it does matter, but only when someone else's religion is the subject of scrutiny. His religion only matters when he intends to jam it down our throats after he's elected. Then again, both ways is the way Romney lies it best. First pro-gay, then anti-gay. First pro-gun, then anti-gun. First pro-choice, then pro-life. And now he's flip-flopping on whether the religion of a nominee is a relevant factor in their employment.

Actually, I'm less worried about Romney's religion than I am the growing sense that the man has no substance beyond his hair gel. (link AMERICAblog)

The Mormon Masshole and his bid for the White House are in serious trouble, due to the fact that Americans are creeped out by Mormons. New polls show 43% of voters will never pick a Mormon for president, because the Church of the Latter Day Saints isn’t crazy in the same exact way as Christianity.

Romney states his policy would be to violoate Article VI section 3 of the Consitution

Following in the steps of the current administration but refining and being more specific as to the constitutional violations he would support, he says in a campaign speech that he intends directly to violate and throw out Article VI section 3 of the constitution.

This shows either a stunning lack of basic constitutional knowledge by someone who wants to be president or a blatant statement that the Constitution no longer has any validity and portions of it can be selectively ignored at will.  Based on his own experiences with religious discrimination his statements are surprising. The difference in the number of Muslims in the US and the number of Mormons is not significant compared to the number of Christians. In fact there are more atheists & agnostics than Mormons. So this is not really populating his cabinet based on religious quotas but more direct bigotry against a single religious belief and directly and specifically disregarding the Constitution.

The "no religious test" clause of the United States Constitution is found in Article VI, section 3, and states that:

“

...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

”

This is classic "Romney the hypocrite" in action. Religion for Mitt only matters when it's someone else's religion. He doesn't think it's important to include a Muslim in his administration because they just don't amount to any significant population in the US. While their population is admittedly small, how can any serious presidential candidate not find such inclusion a positive idea considering where we are today? Is it really that horrible that we - gasp! - include a representative who can broaden our horizons and provide feedback on reaching out to this community both at home and abroad?

I asked Mr. Romney whether he would consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his cabinet as advisers on national security matters, given his position that "jihadism" is the principal foreign policy threat facing America today. He answered, "…based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that a cabinet position would be justified. But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration."

Romney, whose Mormon faith has become the subject of heated debate in Republican caucuses, wants America to be blind to his religious beliefs and judge him on merit instead. Yet he seems to accept excluding Muslims because of their religion, claiming they're too much of a minority for a post in high-level policymaking. More ironic, that Islamic heritage is what qualifies them to best engage America's Arab and Muslim communities and to help deter Islamist threats.

Well, as long as they can carry Mitt's bags or perhaps sweep a floor or two. This is all quite interesting coming from a guy who belongs to a faith that barely represents 2% of the population, compared to the 1% in America who are Muslims. Are we really doing that well with our existing Muslim outreach programs that we can afford to exclude Muslims from senior positions in the next administration? Yes, he's the guy who cries "foul" when anyone discusses his Mormon faith (that he can't stop talking about) but he doesn't mind making a bigoted remark about Muslims. During our so-called war on terror, no less. How insulting, careless and downright offensive.

The US is now officially pro-torture; of course the word "now" is not really accurate. It might more accurate to say the the official US use of torture continues to increase.

This is disgusting. Bush's threat was this guy or I'll appoint an "acting" attorney general that you don't have to approve. In other words "I will have my way and there's not a fucking thing you can do about it".

                  Here's what our incompetent commander in chief, the guy lost the war in Iraq and let Osama go, had to say today:

"Unfortunately, on too many issues, some in Congress are behaving as if America is not at war," Bush said during a speech at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. "This is no time for Congress to weaken the Department of Justice by denying it a strong and effective leader. ... It's no time for Congress to weaken our ability to intercept information from terrorists about potential attacks on the United States of America. And this is no time for Congress to hold back vital funding for our troops as they fight al-Qaida terrorists and radicals in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Hmm, let's see:

1. America doesn't have an attorney general because Bush let his old guy resign after he broke too many laws for even the corrupt Bush administration. So tell us again why we don't have an attorney general.

2. Weaken our ability to intercept communications? Congress sent Bush a new domestic spying law and he vetoed it because it didn't grant Verizon and AT&T immunity for illegally spying on innocent Americans' phone records. Had nothing to do with his ability to intercept Al Qaeda - Congress gave him that, and he vetoed it. So again, it's Bush's fault we don't have a new domestic spying law.

3. Funding the troops? Huh? Congress fully funded the troops. They're fully funded until after New Years. It's only November 1. What is he even talking about?

Our president is a liar. That's because he comes from a party of liars. All the extremists leading the Republican party know how to do nowadays is lie. They look in a mirror, pick out the worst things they're doing, and then blame the Democrats for it. Bush let Osama go? Blame the Democrats! Bush bankrupted the country while Clinton left us with hundreds of billions of dollars of surplus? Call the Democrats fiscally irresponsible because they want to add a few billion to a program to insure millions of children.

The Republicans, personified by Bush, have nothing left to stand for, nothing left to run on. All they can do is lie. Because to admit the truth would require a few hundred impeachments and or permanent stints at Gitmo.
