Another anti-gay hypocrite caught cross-dressing while getting a blowjob at a video store

I've been coming across so many of these types of articles in the last few months it's getting pretty humorous. I think that most people, at least most of the Democrats aren't really concerned with facts and details of what happens and people sexual  preferences, just that those involved are rabidly anti-gay hypocrites. So I'll start collecting the articles I come across.

Yeah, you just don't see a headline like that every day. The only thing missing is that the cross-dressing lawmaker is an anti-gay Republican and the tryst was with a man.

So you have to read Pam Spaulding's post on this latest GOP gay sex scandal. This one is from Washington State and as you read through the post and the updates, it just keeps getting better. So, read it. Pam got some of the updates from Dan Savage at The SLOG. Okay, Dan's post is also a must-read including all the updates. The whole story is sordid and creepy and just keeps getting better. Dan wrote, "My head is EXPLODING."

Through Dan, we got that headline in the title of the post, "Cross-dressing state lawmaker blackmailed following late night tryst" -- and it wouldn't be fair to not give a couple of the paragraphs:

State Representative Richard Curtis says he's not gay, but police reports and court records indicate the Republican lawmaker from southwestern Washington dressed up in women's lingerie and met a Medical Lake man in a local erotic video store which led to consensual sex at a downtown hotel and a threat to expose Curtis' activities publicly.

A search warrant unsealed Tuesday morning disclosed that State Representative Richard Curtis (R - La Center) had sex in his room at the Davenport Tower with a man identified as Cody Castagna, 26, of Medical Lake, who he met at the Hollywood Erotic Boutique on October 26th.

Curtis, according to a search warrant unsealed Tuesday, went to the Hollywood Erotic Boutique on East Sprague on October 26th at approximately 12:45 a.m. The store clerk, who had talked with Curtis, referred to him as "The Cross-Dresser" and said that during their conversations he confirmed he was gay and was married with children at home.

During his visit to the video store Curtis was observed wearing women's lingerie while receiving oral sex from an unidentified man in one of the movie viewing booths inside the store.

The Christian Right and "Values Voters" are more much of a threat to the United States than terrorists.  I am much more afraid of them and their tactics than I am a Muslim terrorist. Stopping abortion would solve the illegal immigration problems, death penalty for blasphemy,

On October 20 and 21st, I attended the Value Voters Summit, a massive gathering hosted by the Colorado-based Christian right mega-ministry, Focus on the Family, and its Washington lobbying arm, the Family Research Council. With the pro-choice Rudy Giuliani leading in the race for the Republican nomination and the threat of another Clinton presidency looming, the stakes for the Christian right were high.

At the Summit, I witnessed all of the major Republican presidential candidates compete for the affection of so-called value voters. Rudy Giuliani, the current frontrunner, sought to assuage movement leaders' concerns about his multiple marriages, pro-choice politics, and penchant for cross-dressing. Mitt Romney pledged to fight for a Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, hoping his newfound conservatism would somehow lessen evangelical resentment of his Mormon faith.... WalMart pant suit queen and beekeeper

As one commenter put it, maybe the other woman just didn't want to be seen together in a picture with Laura Bush. Joking aside, what is this a photo-op supposed to mean?  Women in Saudi women who are now so progressive they can wear a pink ribbon on their beekeeper outfits?

First lady Laura Bush, on a tour of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Jordan, sat with a breast cancer survivor, Nabweia Hussein al-Zaabi, during a conversation with survivors at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Prepare to have your opinion of Jerry Seinfeld diminished. He's a scientologist, for the dumbest of reasons.

"They have a lot of very good technology. That's what really appealed to me about it. It's not faith-based. It's all technology. And I'm obsessed with technology."

Scientology and technology? You've got to be kidding. The "e-meter" they use is a cheap galvanometer, and their explanation for how it works is biophysical nonsense.  If that's his idea of technology to obsess over, he's going to really be dazzled when someone shows him a transistor radio.

Sam Harris bungles his response in RDFRS

Good response to Sam Harris reply to his speech at the recent AAI conference. I was at the conference and he made some valid points in his speech but his attempt at clarifying his talk was bad and confusing. Few use the word "atheist" casually in conversations and never to just toss in a volatile qualifier, except of course when one wants to make a deliberate point. A persons religious beliefs or lack thereof should have little to do with the facts and evidence. And to say that atheism is a "cult" is extremely dishonest. There is nothing "cultish" about it. Would you say that people who  think that gravity is a good theory are gravity "cultists"?

Sam Harris responds to the reaction to his speech at the Atheist Alliance meeting.

Is it really possible that PZ Myers and Ellen Johnson think I was recommending that we stop publicly criticizing religion or that I am hiding my own atheism out of "shame and fear"? I would not have thought such a misreading was possible, given the contents of my speech and my rather incessant criticism of religion in my books, articles, and lectures.

It's puzzling to be accused of misreading Harris when his misreading of PZ Myers is so far off base; perhaps my name was just tossed in as an afterthought, and he's really trying to address Ellen Johnson's comment. Even there, though, I think he's mangling the point.

I have to hammer on one more thing from Sam Harris's reply. He objects to the label "atheism" because it will chase away people who do not want to … well, read what he says.

They have read the writings of the "new atheists," sent us letters and emails of support, are quite fond of criticizing religion whenever the opportunity arises, but they have no interest whatsoever in joining a cult of such critics. And there is something cult-like about the culture of atheism. In fact, much of the criticism I have received of my speech is so utterly lacking in content that I can only interpret it as a product of offended atheist piety.

Hmmm. Atheists have been getting called "fundamentalist" for some time to misrepresent them and simultaneously trivialize and demonize them. It's complete nonsense....(link Pharyngula)

It still applies quite well, of course, to our government's behavior in Iraq. Like the Canadians and Indians whose treatment Washington was concerned about, the Iraqi people have been caught up in a battle that they did not choose. And just as Washington was right that ill treatment of the Canadians and Indians in 1775 would bring disgrace and ruin and would turn their hearts and minds against us, the same is true of the Iraqis today.

What a shame, then, that instead of a commander in chief who demands that those he sends in to battle behave with honor at all times we have one who plays legalistic games with the definition of torture. A commander in chief who contracts tens of thousands of private soldiers to do the work of the military and insists that they not be subject to any rule of law, Iraqi or American.

George Washington demanded "severe and exemplary punishment" for any soldier who harms the person or property of innocent people in lands occupied by our military. Today, we have a government that sits idly by while a Blackwater soldier gets drunk and kills the bodyguard of a high ranking Iraqi official. And what was the State Department's primary concern when the perpetrator was quickly whisked out of the country, escaping any possible punishment for his actions? Here was their concern:

Within 36 hours after the shooting, the State Department had allowed Blackwater to transport the Blackwater contractor out of Iraq. The State Department Charge d'Affaires recommended that Blackwater make a "sizeable payment" and an "apology" to "avoid this whole thing becoming even worse." The Charge d'Affaires suggested a $250,000 payment to the guard's family, but the Department's Diplomatic Security Service said this was too much and could cause Iraqis to "try to get killed." In the end, the State Department and Blackwater agreed on a $15,000 payment.

Did they demand swift and severe punishment? No. Their only concern was that it was bad for PR and needed to be contained. And God forbid you place the value of that man's life at more than $15,000 because those crazy Iraqis will start jumping in front of the bullets fired by every drunk American they can find. That's exactly the time to negotiate a lower fee, don't you think?

I guess it's a good thing there was no Blackwater in George Washington's day. A good thing for Blackwater, that is; a sad day for America to come face to face with how far our leaders are today from what they once were. The shame, disgrace and ruin that Washington warned against has come as a result of this administration's contempt for the rule of law and concern only for covering their ass rather than doing the right thing.

Pollution in China is bad, terrible really, but overall they use less than a fifth of the per capita resources than the US does.

LONDON (Reuters) - The world moved into 'ecological overdraft' on Saturday, the point at which human consumption exceeds the ability of the earth to sustain it in any year and goes into the red, the New Economics Foundation think-tank said.   

Ecological Debt Day this year is three days earlier than in 2006 which itself was three days earlier than in 2005. NEF said the date had moved steadily backwards every year since humanity began living beyond its environmental means in the 1980s.                        

"As the world creeps closer to irreversible global warming and goes deeper into ecological debt, why on earth, say, would the UK export 20 tonnes of mineral water to Australia and then re-import 21 tonnes," said NEF director Andrew Simms.

"And why would that wasteful trade be more the rule than the exception," he added.

Not only was there a massive gulf between rich and poor but there were deep variations in environmental profligacy between the rich countries, NEF said.

If everyone in the world had the same consumption rates as in the United States it would take 5.3 planet earths to support them, NEF said, noting that the figure was 3.1 for France and Britain, 3.0 for Spain, 2.5 for Germany and 2.4 for Japan.

But if everyone emulated China, which is building a coal-fired power station every five days to feed its booming economy, it would take only 0.9 of a planet. ...(link YahooNews)
